Brian Beutler, writing over at Matt’s place, wonders about the point of negotiating with a set of Republican members of Congress who clearly do not believe in the very basis of the stimulus program, the Keynsian belief that government spending can help spur demand and restart a stalled economy:
…bipartisanship doesn’t help anybody if two parties are approaching the same problem from incompatible vantage points. If Barack Obama really “rejects” the economic philosophies of the right, then he might as well go negotiate with yogurt. That might at least help him think through his own goals for the stimulus package. And if not? Hey! Free yogurt!
This, of course, reminds me of a Simpsons episode, when Homer buys a cursed Krusty The Clown doll for Bart’s birthday from a spooky curio shop in Chinatown:
