From The Department Of Entirely Unsurprising Events

Via Ezra, news that last month’s hostilities in the Gaza Strip have resulted in increased popularity for Hamas in both Gaza and the Palestinian West Bank.

Hamas would get 28.6 percent of the vote compared with 27.9 percent for the rival Fatah faction of Western-backed president Mahmud Abbas if elections were held today, according to the survey by the Jerusalem Media and Communications Centre.

It marks the first time that an opinion poll has placed Hamas in front of Fatah, which it ousted from the Gaza Strip in deadly fighting in June 2007.

Good times, good times.  If only someone could have predicted that bombing the shit out of people doesn’t make you more popular with them

  1. Yeah, it *is* kind of a “Duh!” moment.

I like to think of it this way: suppose the US were invaded and occupied over forty years. Who would be popular with the folks who would go to the polls? The guys who sat on their hands while good, decent, did-nothing-to-deserve-it folks were being bombed? Or the guys who fought back?

    Well, duh!
