Sounds like Henry Waxman, Congressman from California, will be replacing John Dingell, from Michigan, as the chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee in the House of Representatives. This is undoubtedly good news for the enviro movement, and for all of us if the worst-case predictions of global warming possibilities are correct, as Waxman is a known anti-pollution hawk, while Dingell has been one of the staunchest defenders of the priorities of the Big 3 auto companies, namely holding the line against increased fuel efficiency requirements and against anti-global warming legislation with any teeth whatsoever.
So, I’m sure this all good news, but the one thing I simply can never get over is the fact that Waxman looks more like a mole-person than a Congressman. He reminds me of nothing so much as Peter Pettigrew from the Harry Potter books.
Does this make me a less serious participant in the National Discourse?
