Damn Funny

I don’t remember if I’ve sung the praises of the website Hulu on this blog yet.  It’s really a remarkable site.  Current episodes of most top shows from Fox, NBC, and Comedy Central, along with random movies and other oldies, put up between one and eight days after the shows air live on TV.  All available for free, and you have to watch, on average, about one and a half minutes’ worth of commercials for every 30-minute slotted show.

There are only a few things I really miss about having cable, and the Internet has enable me to do without pretty much all of them at this point.  I get Olbermann (and, now, Maddow) as free podcast downloads, and I could even download the videos if I really wanted to watch them on my mp3 player’s teensy video screen.  I get the Daily Show and Colbert Report, and even reruns of House and Heroes from Hulu.

All of this serves as prelude to show a couple highlights from last night’s Saturday Night Live, one of which is absolutely worth your time, and one of which probably is.

The first is McCain’s cold open, along with Tina Fey as Sarah Palin.  Everyone should watch this.  Despite his performance during the debates, McCain is actually a pretty funny guy, if a little stilted, and does pretty well playing the straight guy here.

The second will really only be funny if you are a somewhat regular watching of Countdown.  Ben Affleck actually does a remarkably good Olbermann, or, rather, significantly more over-the-top version of Olbermann.  But, if you think you’d get the jokes, the skit is worth the watch.
